West-City basketball doubleheader

West-City+basketball+doubleheader

The first girls and boys basketball double-header of two, this year, was played on the hardwood of City High.

The West girls dominated on the front of the double-header. Danielle Craig ’15 and Mikaela Morgan ’15 led the Women of Troy with 20 points and 14 points respectively. Senior leadership has been the focal point for their season, thus far. They are also ranked fourth in the state and yet to lose a game. The bench mainly consists of underclassmen including freshmen Rachel Saunders ’18 and Logan Cook ’18, who both played heavy minutes in tonight’s 74-46 victory.

On the back end the West Boys team defeated City High with a final score of 64-40 in what was an intense atmosphere. Both student sections encouraging their respective schools, and hoping for a victory. Yet the home court advantage seemed to be a moot point. The athleticism of the Trojans overwhelmed the Little Hawks. Tanner Lohaus ’16 and Connor McCaffery ’17 both scored 17 points and Nate Barnes ’16 contributed off the bench with seven points. The story of the game seemed to be transition baskets and big three point shots. This propelled the Trojans to victory, and the sweep of the double-header. The Boys team will hope to stay undefeated when they challenge a tough Dubuque Wahlert team on Jan 13., who defeated the Trojans last year in Dubuque. However, the Trojans will have home court advantage this winter as they hope the student section can roar them to a victory.
