On Friday, September 14, dozens of Iowa Citians flocked to City Park to get a taste of a new kind of movie experience. Classic films, a fun audience, free popcorn- Mark Ginsberg’s FilmScene Starlight Cinema has it all, with ticket rates at just $5.oo.

Ginsberg has long served the arts in Iowa City. From the pianos downtown to the legendary Iowa City Jazz Festival each Summer, Ginsberg has had a huge role in many of the vibrant qualities of the Iowa City art scene. His latest project, Starlight Cinema, is intended to serve as a fun, wholesome event for families and students alike.

Many West students struggle to find creative activities on a Friday night. “I feel like unless I am at a friends house, there are very limited ways to have fun without emptying out my wallet.” said Adam Dellos ’14.

Starlight Cinema is a great destination for a date, get-together, or anything in between, with tickets going for half of box office prices at local theaters.

Starlight Cinema evokes an atmosphere reminiscent of the drive-ins of the ’50’s and ’60’s, but perhaps with a better view. Riverside Theatre’s festival stage in City Park provides a perfect location for Shakespearean plays in the Summer, as well as classic movies such as Psycho (10/19) or Close Encounters of the Third Kind (10/12). With surround sound and a 20 foot wide inflatable screen on stage, Starlight Cinema provides a cozy and accessible venue for all.
