Women of Troy fall to Ankeny Centennial in state tournament

The eighth ranked volleyball team fell to second ranked Ankeny Centennial 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the state tournament.

The volleyball team came into Tuesday’s match as the underdog to second ranked Ankeny Centennial. The Women of Troy got off to a strong start and took the first set 26-24. The team struggled to fend off Centennial in the second and third sets, falling 25-16 and 25-14, respectively. In the fourth set, Centennial took a quick 6-0 lead. The Women of Troy roared back tying the set at 16-16 and at one point taking a 18-16 lead over the Jaguars. It wasn’t enough, though, as Centennial defeated West in the fourth set 25-23 and won the match 3-1.

Although this was the end of the season for the team and the end of the senior class’ West High career, six of the nine seniors will be continuing their volleyball careers in college. Maddie Fay will be attending South Dakota State University.
Ali Tauchen will be attending Missouri Western State University. Aubrey Sowers will be attending Missouri University of Science and Technology. Gabi Delsing will be attending Mount Mercy University. Emily Halverson will be attending North Dakota State University. And Emma Norris will be attending Western Illinois University.
