“West Side Story” staffers won 10 awards in the Iowa High School Press Association’s state website contest. Staffers received two first place awards. Social media editor Megumi Kitamoto ‘15 and the entire staff won first place in the state social media category for @wsspaper coverage on Twitter. Hilah Kohen ‘14 also won first place in the digital media story category for her piece titled “Personal column: scenes from Israeli-American Life.”
Stephon Berry ‘14 and Brittani Langland ‘15 received second place for their digital media story titled “Black history month.” Langland also received second place for her video sports story titled “Battle of the Boot: 2013.” Lydia Hinman ‘14 received second place for her online photo slideshow titled “Iowa City West vs. Hempstead.” Layla Hannaford ‘17 received second place for her video feature story titled “1 in 2000.”
Lucy Blair ‘16, Hinman, Langland, Lizzie Pruneau ‘14, Blake Oetting ‘14, Apoorva Raikwar ‘14 and Shirley Wang ‘14 received third place for their digital media story titled “No shave November.” Langland received third place for her online photo slideshow titled “The West High Galapagos and Amazon 2013 expedition.” Lushia Anson ‘15, Kitamoto, Jaeho Lee ‘14 and Anthony Pizzimenti ‘16 received third place for their video feature story titled “Music Playathon.” Langland received honorable mention for her video sports story titled “Boys Basketball.”
