District Results

On Saturday Feb. 13, five West High wrestlers qualified for the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament. Three of the five will be participating in the State Tournament for their first time. To qualify, the wrestlers had to place either first or second at the District Two tournament at Burlington High School.

Full Team Results (names in bold are 2016 State Qualifiers):

106 lbs. Hans von Rabenau `18 placed second.

113 lbs. Hunter Davis `18  placed fourth.

120 lbs. Miguel Peredes `18 placed sixth.

126 lbs. Aaron Stumpf `16 placed third.

138 lbs. Nelson Brands `18 placed first.

145 lbs. Ben Bertell `16 placed fifth.

152 lbs. Tyler Yoerger `16 placed third.

160 lbs. Carter Rohweder `17 placed second.

170 lbs. Nate Kelsay `16 placed second.

182 lbs. Ashton Stumpf placed eighth.

195 lbs. Donovan Doyle `16 placed first.

220 lbs. Joe Briddle `18 placed sixth.

285 lbs. Guy Snow `18 placed sixth.

State Wrestling Information

West High Wrestlers will wrestle at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines from Thursday Feb. 18 through Saturday Feb. 20. If you would like to go watch the wrestling, doors open 50 minutes before each session. The good seats fill up fast, so make sure you get there early. Saturday night finals also usually sell out so make sure you plan accordingly.

Thursday-          1:30-4:30 p.m.: 3A first round

Friday-                9-1:00 p.m.: 3A quarterfinals and second round of consolations

7:30-8:40 p.m.: 3A semi-finals and 3rd round of consolations

Saturday-          10:00 a.m. – 2:15 p.m.: 3A consolation semi-finals & 3rd, 5th, and 6th place matches

5:45 p.m.: IWCOA, IHSADA & IHSAA awards

6:00 p.m.: Grand march and finals for all classes

State- Day one

After the first day, Nelson Brands `18, Carter Rohweder `17 and Donovan Doyle `16 advance onto the quarterfinals at 9:00 a.m. Friday morning.

Hans von Rabenau `18 and Nate Kelsay `16 both lost their first round matches, putting them in the consolation bracket. Von Rabenau lost his next match, eliminating him from the tournament. Kelsay won 16-5 over Colton Lear `16 of Lewis Central to stay in the tournament and capture his 100th career win.

3A quarterfinals and second round of consolations will be wrestled at 9:00 am Friday. West will also wrestle in the semifinals and third round of consolations at 7:30 p.m. Friday night.
