Lauren Zacharias ’19

West Side Story: Why did you start playing basketball?

LZ: I guess my parents just set me up for sports they thought I would enjoy and I just fell in love with the game at a young age.

WSS: How long have you been playing for?

LZ: Probably since I was five or six years old in the rec league.

WSS: Do you play on an AAU team?

LZ: I play on the Iowa Barnstormers with Emma Koch. Rachael and Logan are on the team [one year] above us.

WSS: What are you looking forward to this season?

LZ: I’m just looking forward to playing with all the girls and hanging out. It’s just a blast playing with them.

WSS: What do you like about basketball?

LZ: I like the competitiveness that comes with it and that I get to play with my friends outside of school.

WSS: Describe your personal goals in basketball.

LZ: I guess my personal goals are just to expand what I already know about the game and move that to another level and possibly go play in college.

WSS: Who are your major influences/mentors in basketball?

LZ: I look up to other college players. For instance, Ally Disterhoft came from Iowa City [West] and played here She knew what she wanted in life and what she wanted in the career and went forward and did her best.
