A suicide hotline speaker talks about various ways that students can reach out for help in times of need.

BPA blanket-tying and suicide hotline speaker

The Business Professionals of America (BPA) chapter at West organized their own events, starting off with hosting a guest speaker from the southeast Iowa branch of the suicide prevention hotline. The session provided members a behind-the-scenes look at how the hotline functions and how they provide aid to those in need. Beyond hosting the speaker from the suicide prevention board, the BPA executive board also organized a blanket-tying session for an anonymous-located domestic violence shelter.

“Blanket-tying is really fun, and it just brings everyone a little closer together,” said Lucas Sorensen ‘19, a BPA executive board member.

Once the blankets were tied, members of the club dropped them off at the Iowa City Shelter House in association with the domestic violence shelter. “We don’t know where [the shelter] is,” Sorensen said. “But it’s a nice thing because in that situation a simple thing like blanket can make a little kid a lot happier.”
