In an email sent to district parents on March 16 it was announced that the Iowa City Community School District would suspend classes until April 13. In the message, sent by Director of Community Relations Kristin Pedersen, it was explained that the district is following a recommendation made by Gov. Kim Reynolds that schools close for four weeks in order to lessen the spread of Coronavirus.

In addition to suspending classes, extracurricular activities, athletic practices and school competitions have all been cancelled until further notice. However, these cancellations will not affect BASP programming and the district is currently developing a plan for school meal distribution to be announced at a later date.

“Thank you for your patience and your understanding as we work together through this incredibly trying situation,” Pedersen wrote. “We will continue to provide updates as information becomes available.”
