Jack Wallace '25 looks to pass for a first down against Davenport North on Sept. 17, 2021.
West Side Story: When did you first show interest in playing football?
Jack Wallace ’25: I think I started showing interest around first or second grade. It has always been my favorite sport, and I really started to focus more on it during middle school.
WSS: Who is your biggest mentor on and off the field?
JW: I think my biggest mentor is my dad. He helps me through a lot of things football-wise and just helps me with anything.
WSS: What were your first impressions of West High?
JW: It was big, but everyone was welcoming, and I like it a lot so far.
WSS: What has it been like playing varsity football as a freshman? Did you have any nerves running out onto the field against Kennedy?
JW: Oh yeah for sure, but it’s been good. I was a little nervous for our first game but, I feel like I’m more settled now that the season is underway.
WSS: Are you ever intimidated by the size or age of your opponents?
JW: No, I don’t think so. I think it doesn’t really matter who’s in front of you, just have to do things right in order to win.
WSS: Do you have any goals for the team or yourself this year?
JW: It’s just to get a win each week and if we get that, bigger things will come.
WSS: What are you looking forward to with multiple years left to compete at this level?
JW: I’m looking forward to just getting wins and playing with my teammates, along with some of the kids in my grade as we get older.

WSS: Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?
JW: No wristbands on my right arm especially when I throw and then I just listen to music before games.
WSS: Is there a mantra or a quote you live by?
JW: Yeah, Philippians 4:13. Everyone’s probably heard it but, it’s, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” I just go by that.
