Diversity Dinner brings West community together

Diversity+Dinner+brings+West+community+together

The cafeteria was buzzing with activity Thursday night, with foods and people of different cultures coming together to enjoy each other’s cultures. The diversity dinner, organized by SSIKE (Successful Students Inspired Through Knowledge and Education), offered participants cuisines from all around the world, along with other the opportunity to learn more about the different cultures at West. The co-presidents of SSIKE, Majed Magzonb ’13 and Siddig Siddig ’13, appreciate this dinner for the bonding experience between different cultures.

“We believe diversity is very important. We like to show that even though people come from different places, we can all mesh,” Magzonb said.

Many students not involved in SSIKE also showed up not only for the great food, but for the experience to better understand differing aspects of diversity.

“I just think it’s a great way to connect and learn about different cultures and foods,” Alex Grady ’14 said.

Along with the large student turnout, a number of faculty members came out to support the event. The different tastes, scents, and flags adorned West High’s cafeteria, displaying the school’s commitment to cultural diversity and how truly that diversity is appreciated.
