High school Wrestlers from all over Iowa met in Des Moines this week at the Wells Fargo Arena to see who will be crowned a state champion.
Freshman Alex Pierce took the tournament by storm and brought back the gold to Iowa City.
Pierce is a force to be reckoned with, he holds a 41-2 record this season. Pierce fought past the competition beating Cedar Rapids Prarie sophomore Dylan Munson in a 10-8 decision in the quarterfinals, propelling him into the semis on Friday.
During Friday’s match, he beat out Ankeney Centennial Freshman Cale Vandermark to secure him a spot in the finals against Norwalk’s Bowen Downey where they fought for the State Title on Saturday night. Pierce came out victorious in a 10-7 decision.
This is just the beginning for Pierce as he will add this title to his belt and look forward to the next 3 years he has left as a West High wrestler.
