Track teams take on Drake
The 113th annual Drake relays took place last weekend. West High took home many personal bests and victorious.

Boys team results
The boys track team took eleven events to Drake this past weekend. Qualifying every relay for the event, of those eleven West had seven top-ten finishes. The boys team will now move on to the MVC championship meet this Thursday followed by state qualifying the week after.
Long Jump: Aidan Jacobsen ’24 qualified for finals with a jump of 21’1.75, and placed ninth.
100-meter dash: Izaiah Loveless ’24 qualified for finals, then placed sixth in a time of 10.88.
110 shuttle hurdle relay: The team of Quinn Abbott ’24, Christian Janis ’23, Jesus Marungo-Murillo ’24 and Ely Smock ’26 placed twelfth in a time of 1:02.28.
4 x 100-meter relay: West placed third in a time of 42.19, with the team of Todd Rent’24, Izaiah Loveless ’24, Daniel Robinson ’24 and Christian Janis ’23.
4 x 200 meter relay: The team of Todd Rent ’24, Izaiah Loveless ’24, Aidan Jacobsen ’24 and Christian Janis ’23 placed second running 1:27.41.
Distance medley relay: West High’s team were champions in this event running a season-best at 3:26.67 with the team of Todd Rent ’24, Izaiah Loveless ’24, Aidan Jacobsen ’24 and Moustafa Tiea ’25.
400-meter hurdles: Junior Aidan Jacobsen placed third in a time of 52.83.
4 x 400-meter relay: West High’s team of Mason Van Waning ’23, Christian Janis ’23, Carson Teghanemt ’23 and Moustafa Tiea ’25 placed sixteenth in a time of 3:28.28.
800-meter relay: Sophomore Moustafa Tiea placed sixteenth running 2:01.79.
4 x 800-meter relay: Making up the team was Sam Showers ’25, Mason Van Waning ’23, Brice Wahe ’25 and Moustafa Tiea ’25, they ran 8:07.83 placing fifth.
Girls team results
At 8 a.m. on April 28, Eriniah Carter ’24 started off the girl’s races in the 113th Drake Relays. Iowa City West High girls track and field brought runners in the 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles, shuttle hurdle relay and high jump. The girls will return to the Drake Stadium in three weeks from May 18-20 to compete in the Iowa Girls High School Track and Field Championships.
Friday:
100-meter hurdles: Eriniah Carter ’24 finished 29th with a time of 16.19.
High jump: Meena Tate ’23 jumps in her first ever Drake Relays with 5’2 finishing 15th.
Saturday:
100-meter shuttle hurdle: The girls’ team of Sophia Olivio ’25, Hebah War ’23, Lily McConnell ’25 and Eriniah Carter ’24 placed 15th with 1:10.18.
400-meter hurdles: Erinn Varga ’24 finishes the day in 15th with 1:06.99.
