“One of my favorite childhood memories would be… my brother and I, in our old house, where we grew up. We had these woods in our neighborhood and we were always adventurous as kids, so we would just go and disappear and have adventures and play in the trees and make up crazy stories. We would pretend we were spies running away from the enemy or just people living out in the woods. We would make these crazy plans and have adventures. and I don’t know, those were always just happy memories because we would always get in some sort of trouble but we would come out of it happy. Perseverance is a big thing. A lot of people when they pick up a new instrument, especially when they have been playing an instrument for a long time, kinda expect themselves to be really good at it. They just give up. That was kind of like me, when I tried to learn the flute. I kinda gave up, but that was also because I didnt have any motivation to actually play the flute. With the mellophone, I actually understood that, its basically like starting back in fifth grade. Sure, I might be able to make progress a lot faster, to mature, but the big think is to keep practicing, and the cliche stuff, like yourre not going to see improvement in a day of two. -Chen-You Wu 20

I broke my nose when I was playing baseball once ... I still caught the ball. After that, I came off the field, and my dad came over to the dugout to check on me. he was about to wipe the blood [off] to send me back out there but then, he saw my nose, and it was crooked. We went right in the car, right to the hospital. At the hospital they couldnt tell us anything because it was too swollen. We scheduled an appointment to get [it] straightened surgically so I had to wear a cast over my nose. It was during school, but my gradparents sent me a picture where they covered their noses with a white piece of paper, which was kind of nice. Im still pretty proud of that. -Drew Peterson 21

“Last summer I had the opportunity to create a Harry Potter themed summer writing camp for third through sixth graders. [...] Kids were divided into houses and they did writing activities that were Harry Potter themed, so for example, create your own magical creature. They got to make wands and hats and it was just really really fun. It was so wonderful to get to work with really cute kids who were also really smart and creative. Chopin is pretty great. I feel like Chopin tries to put such a wide range of emotions in almost all of his pieces. For instance, the Polonaise-Fantasie is really good; it has really explosive, bombastic moments, but it also has such intimate melodies at times--beautiful but simple. I think beautiful music is beautiful just existing for its own sake. The emotions I get, I cant find anywhere else. -Daniel Stewart 19

Games are cool, and writing can be cool if its with a computer. [When I started] I was programming games on calculators; on my computer, I made games that took up more CPU like a tower defense game.
