Boys tennis caps off home opener with win against Wahlert

The West boys tennis team defeated Dubuque Wahlert at their first home meet of the season on April 10.

The boys tennis team continued their opening week at their first home meet of the season at the West High Tennis Courts April 10. This meet followed the Trojans’ 8-1 win against Dubuque Hempstead earlier in the week.

This year, five members returned to the team — Ishan Harwani ’25, Derek Hua ’25, Junze Sun ’25, Anthony Medina ’25 and Aaron Kang ’27 — along with new members Joseph Lin ’25, Sudarshan Kasturirangan ’26, Jensen Lin ’27 and Pierce Hribar ’28, as they hope to match the run they made at last year’s state tournament, where the team and three individuals qualified for the state tournament.

The Trojans returned to the court at home Saturday, April 12, in a double-header against Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Cedar Rapids Jefferson. Their full schedule can be found here.

Maddux Neukirch is a sophomore at West High and this will be his first year on staff. During the year, he hopes to be as timely and organized as he can for himself and for his peers. In his spare time, you can find Maddux coaching soccer, practicing music or stuffing his face with food.

(she/her) Leah Butcher is a sophomore at West High School. This is her first year on yearbook as a staff member. In her free time she likes to read, listen to Taylor Swift and take photos.
