Following the powder puff game, the upper class men took to the volleyball court to spike, dive and serve. The West Side Story caught some pictures of the annual thriller.
Aspen VanFleet ’14 was one of the coaches on the senior’s team. She was very proud of her team, “the feeling when a player does something well … nothing can beat it” she said.Tyler Whitehead ’14 reaches for a spike on Justin Barry ’15. As a team, Whitehead thought their “unfaltering will power and chemistry” aided them in the match.“The atmosphere is very chaotic and its fun to watch” Allye Boardman ’15 said of the event.Mitch Gross was one of the referees, along with Brady Shutt, of man ball this year. Gross was, however, less than impressed with the level of play this year, “I’ve seen better volleyball at my daughter’s PE class … I’m not joking.”
Connor Schueler ’14 looks on during a point. He was very determined coming into man ball, “I wanted absolute, total annihilation … I wanted nothing left of the junior team.”Grant Ewing ’14 listens to his coach- Aspen VanFleet ’14- during a timeout. “[my favorite part of man ball] is the camaraderie … Also seeing Dileo’s face when we get a point” he said.Ryan Collins ’15 was another server for the seniors. According to Collins, the hardest part of the match was “communicating with everyone because it is very loud.”Ceci White-Baer ’15 loved watching the competitive match, “Watching how much better the guys are at volleyball than I ever was is my favorite part” She said.
Cole Hatzky ’14 was a key server throughout the match, “the conditions were perfect” he said.The senior team celebrates after winning a key point.“I fee like its super intense because we are competitive but at the end of the day were all one big family.” Mallory Gillispie ’14 said, referring to the homecoming events this week.Both teams file together at the end of the game.
