Girls track and field team wins Women of Troy Relays

The girls track team competed in the Women of Troy Relays on Tuesday. The team came into the meet with a 17 year winning streak and extended it to 18 in a score of 174 points, Linn Mar was second with 122 and Cedar Rapids Kennedy was third with 76. The team took home first place in seven individual events and one relay and recorded 1-2 finishes in four events. In the 100 meter hurdles, Valerie Welch ‘17 took first and Grace Young ‘16 took second. In the 200 meter dash, Katie Severt ‘19 took fourth. In the 400 meter dash, Micaela Gravelin ‘17 took fourth and Olivia Moore ‘17 took fifth. In the 400 meter hurdles, Welch placed first and Peyton Steva ‘19 took second. In the 800 meter run, Bailey Nock ‘18 placed fourth and Tia Saunders ‘16 placed sixth. In the 1500 meter run, Nock placed first and Gabby Skopec ‘17 placed second. In the 3000 meter run Skopec placed first and Moore placed third. In the discus, Leah Dusterhoft ‘17 took first and Chandler Haight ‘18 placed second. In the shot put, Haight placed first and Zainab Makky ‘16 placed second. In the high jump, Willis placed sixth. In the long jump, Welch placed first in a new school and meet record jump of 19-04. In the relay events, the Women of Troy captured fourth in the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400, third in the 4×800, second in the sprint and distance medley relays, and took top honors in the shuttle hurdle relay.
