Craig Huegel has bounced around quite a lot in his time working with high schools and junior high schools and has found another home in West High.

Huegel has most recently been the Athletic Director (AD) for Marshalltown high school, and prior to that he was the Activities Director and At-Risk Coordinator for Martensdale St. Mary’s junior high and high schools and Athletic Director for North Polk high school.

Huegel was one among other candidates to replace Scott Kibby who will become the principal of Liberty High beginning next year.

West High has undergone multiple changes in its athletic facilities in the recent years. A remodel of the football field by adding a new logo and end zones, the creation of Ed Barker soccer field in 2011, and to go outside the realm of athletics, the addition of televisions in every commons area within West.

With all these changes it is fitting that the school decided to add an Athletic Director that has a history of progressive measures.

During his time with North Polk, Huegel obtained a new baseball scoreboard, added lighting upgrades and even added new athletic programs (middle school cross country, girls/boys golf and girls soccer).

With Marshalltown he oversaw a 8.5 million dollar renovation plan of the Marshalltown Roundhouse (the school’s gymnasium).

Huegel will now get an opportunity to use this experience with a much bigger outlet- Trojan athletics.
