The Women of Troy, who are ranked tenth in Class 5A, were defeated 3-0 in sets at home against Dubuque Wahlert, ranked fifth in Class 4A. The team is not happy with the way they played last night the same can be said for the season so far,

“I’m pissed and irritated,” said outside hitter Emma Norris ’17. “We didn’t play to our potential and we’ve been getting sweeped so far. We’re all annoyed at the fact that we’re not playing to our potential because we’re such a talented team and we’re not using that talent.”

Norris led the Women of Troy with twelve kills. Ali Tauchen ’17 and Colby Greene ’18 followed with eight and seven, respectively. Wahlert senior Mackenzie May led the match with nineteen kills. West’s Madi Ford ’17 played well on defense.

Though the season is well underway, the team is still looking to improve to achieve their goal of making it to the state tournament.

“We need to talk more. We just need to start playing our game and getting mentally ready before the game,” Norris said.

After a Wahlert-dominated first set, which ended 25-14, the second and third sets saw both sides playing more competitively. Wahlert won both sets, 25-19 and 25-21, respectively.

The Women of Troy will be back at it at Cedar Rapids Xavier next Tuesday, September 20.
