Boys basketball overcomes Muscatine
The boys basketball team traveled to the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa on Tuesday, March 6. The Trojans battled Muscatine in the quarterfinal round.
Leading by one point at the end of the third quarter, the Trojans came back fighting in the fourth to win the game 62-50. West’s top scorers included Patrick McCaffery ’19 with 17 points, followed by Evan Flitz ’18 with 14 points. Muscatine’s top scorers included Joe Wieskamp ’18, a University of Iowa basketball signee, with 29 points followed by Lex Hahn ’18 with 12 points.
When asked what it was like to play against future teammate, Joe Wieskamp ’18, McCaffery commented, “[It was] really special. He’s one of the best players in Iowa history, so it was really cool to get a chance to play against him.”
The boys will travel back to Wells Fargo Arena on Thursday, March 8 to compete in the semifinal round. West will play Waukee at 6:30 p.m.
