Lauren Zacharias ’19 nominated for KCRG Athlete of the Week
Zacharias is one of three nominees for KCRG Athlete of the Week.
After winning the state championships and earning a spot on the all-tournament team, Lauren Zacharias ’19 could potentially add to her list of accomplishments for this basketball season. Voting for the KCRG Athlete of the Week is open until 10 a.m. on Thurs., March 8 and can be found here.
Zacharias, a point guard for West High, influenced the progression of the team at the state tournament. The owner of the now illustrious “block heard around the world,” she blocked the last-second lay-up that would have sent West Des Moines Dowling Catholic to the semifinals. Instead, the teams played overtime and West’s victory allowed it to move on.
Vote for Z! Without her hustle and “block heard around the world” we may not be celebrating this week! https://t.co/Wbze54c6hT

Among the other nominees are Western Dubuque Cascade‘s Nicole McDermott ’20 and Marion‘s Kayba Laube ’20. Both girls helped lead their teams to state championships in Class 2A and 3A, respectively.
