At the end of fifth period Principal Gregg Shoultz informed students of a general threat to two other schools in the Iowa City Community School District (ICCSD). Teachers were instructed to go on a soft lockdown, meaning all exterior building doors are locked.  Students who have finished classes for the day are allowed to leave.

In an email sent to families from ICCSD, Superintendent Stephen Murley said, “This afternoon, Tuesday, December 18, 2018, Coralville Central Elementary and Tate High School received calls of a threatening nature. Coralville police are currently on site at Coralville Central Elementary and Iowa City police are on site at Tate High School.”

The email also read, “The phone number where the calls originated has been traced to threats all over the country.”
