Boys basketball moves onto state tournament
The Trojans traveled to Muscatine on Tuesday, Feb. 26 to battle Davenport Central for a spot in the Iowa High School Boys State Basketball Tournament.
The boys basketball team took on Davenport Central in a showdown to secure a spot in the Iowa High School Boys State Basketball Tournament. In a close first quarter, the Trojans led 18-12 going into the second. Marcus Morgan ’21 led West with 11 points. As the second quarter progressed, the Trojans gained more momentum, opening up the second quarter with a 10-1 run. Going into the second half, Morgan and Patrick McCaffery ’19 led the Trojans with 13 points. As the second half opened up, West led 37-20. After the third quarter the Trojans led 52-30. West added twenty more points in the fourth quarter to defeat Davenport Central 72-46.
West will play Dubuque Senior on Wednesday, March 6 at Wells Fargo Arena at 12:15 p.m. There will be a pep bus to attend the game; for more information, click here. This will be the ninth consecutive year that West High will make an appearance at the state tournament.
“At this school, since we have had so much success, it’s easy to oversee how cool and exciting it is,” said guard Brayden Adcock ’19. “But going to state and playing at Wells Fargo is a great feeling.”
