The Art of Downtown Iowa City
When contemplating my theme for this essay, I thought about downtown Iowa City, a place I’ve been around for my entire life. The diversity, architecture, and university campus alone are wonderful, and I knew I wanted to capture the feeling of the city. So, I asked my older brother, Tom, to walk around with me, and perhaps show me the best locations for my photos. What I found out is that downtown Iowa City is very different from what I originally thought of. There are places that I had never been to, and that I hadn’t even known about. One aspect of these new places that I found was the abundance of art. From commissioned murals to graffiti to civil rights messages, art was anywhere the eye could see if it looked closely enough. So, please enjoy this closer look at the city I call home.
