In a school board meeting last week, the Iowa City Community School District discussed transitioning to a more year-round school calendar, with a day off every Friday or every other Friday. Several school districts across the state have made this decision recently. The school board hopes that this decision will take away from the amount of material students forget over the summer and would provide more breaks throughout the school year, with a significantly shorter summer of about a month. However, no actions have been taken to approve this decision.

Thursday was the opening night of Anastasia, the musical that Theater West is producing. There will be three more shows, one tonight at 7 pm, and two on Saturday at 1 pm and 7 pm.

A small town in New Jersey celebrated its 100th birthday by collecting socks. They collected 38,743 pairs of socks, beating the world record of 37,556. All the socks collected were donated to local charities.
