Debate team champions for the third consecutive year

West High’s debate team took home a IHSSA title for the third year in a row.

The West High debate team championed for the third year in a row at the IHSSA state tournament on Jan. 6-7. They amassed 270 points and took home the E. Wayne Cooley Sweepstakes Trophy, which travels to the champion school annually. The tournament took place in Ankeny, Iowa, and was hosted by the Iowa High School Speech Association. 

Policy debaters Adam Salem ’26, Edward Li ’26, Maya Chu ’23, and Ashley Seo ’23 hold up their trophies and speaker awards. Speaker awards are given to students for articulate and efficient speaking.
