Interview and photos by Katie Mons
How would you describe your style?
My style is definitely girly, but I like to mix edgy and sophisticated/glamorous pieces in as well.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I get my inspiration from fashion magazines, celebrities and, of course, major designers.
Do you have a fashion icon?
My fashion icons would be Jennifer Lawrence, Emmy Rossum, Ashley Madekwe, Jessica Alba, Victoria Beckham and Emma Watson.
What got you into fashion?
I started out reading fashion magazines, and that really made me want to incorporate some of the styles I saw into my own looks. I’ve honestly always loved clothes, and my friends always say I have way too many. I finally started realizing the possibilities of my wardrobe, and that was fun.
What are your favorite stores?
My favorite stores are Forever 21, H&M, Francesca’s and J. Crew.
What is your favorite piece of clothing or accessory and why?
That’s hard, but I would probably say my military boots because they’re fun to incorporate into my outfits and they’re so
comfortable.
What do you consider to be a fashion “don’t”?
Anything too small or bulky for your frame, because it’s so uncomfortable and unflattering when you don’t have the right fit.
Why did you decide to start making your own clothes?
Last summer, I had a really ambitious goal to make my own homecoming dress for the fall. Once I got into sewing, I started seeing so many possibilities and I’ve been designing and making pieces ever since.
Where do you get ideas when making clothes?
I look to fashion magazines as my number one inspiration for my designs. That makes it easy to keep up to date with what designers are making and what celebrities are wearing. I also love watching fashion shows online. My favorite lines are Dolce and Gabbana, Valentino, Victoria Beckham, Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Gucci and Versace.
