Music can spark all sorts of different emotions and feelings, which is why I’ve asked some people what sorts of music make them the most emotional in any way possible.
Leo Morales ‘27 – ‘“Let’s groove – Earth, Wind and fire.” It makes me go feral and feel groovy.”
Music is known to bring up happier emotions, which allows it to be a sort of stress reliever for most or some as music tends to cause brains to produce dopamine and serotonin which are two chemicals in the brain that help us to be happy.
William Payette ‘24 – ‘“All I want is you” by Rebzyyx about BPD [Borderline Personality Disorder] and as a person with that disorder, I can heavily relate to that song about how I feel, which makes me feel seen and understood. “Too Close by Sir Chloe”, gives me a mixed feeling of sadness and I relate to this song on an emotional level. It reminds me of what I went through with people in my past and how I felt at that time.”
Music can be quite impactful as it’s why there’s typically some sort of background noise in movies and such, as it can add emphasis on things to make a point. Music can be seen in more ways than one and viewed differently with different perspectives, which is what makes it so unique and powerful.
Adrianna Santini ‘23 – ‘“Thinkin’ Bout You- Frank Ocean”, Every time I hear this song it reminds me of my childhood and listening to it while driving down backroads in Arizona. It just makes me feel good and nostalgic. “You’re Gonna Go Far”- Noah Kahan. This song makes me feel emotional because I just moved away to college 5 months ago and sometimes it is really difficult to be away from all my family, and when I listen to this song it reminds me that I’m making the right decision and it’s all worth it.”
Music can also have the effect of nostalgic memories, if you can recognize the sound enough from your childhood it can bring you back to that moment in your past without even having to be an exact song you listened to a lot before.
