Cinnamon rolls, pastries and muffins galore! Breakfast Book Club is a group where members can crack open their favorite books, chat with the people around them and eat delicious breakfast treats. The club is led by seniors Marie Stier, Annie Dickens, Lily McConnell, Sophia Olivo and Sidney Tranel.
Marie Stier ’25 and her friends came up with the idea of the club last year because of their combined love of reading.
“I really enjoy reading, and a lot of my friends did too, and I thought it would be a good idea to make a space for ourselves, to hang out [and] to read books,” Stier said.
Sometimes when students think of books they think of textbooks or required readings for class, however, this club offers the opposite. “It feels like a chore to read the books that are assigned to you, but if you get to choose and talk to your friends about good books that you enjoy and you want to read, it makes it more fun,” Stier said.
Stier places importance on curating a good community within the club. She wants to encourage excitement and enthusiasm for reading. “My favorite part of the club is that it brings people together and that we can get together and read books together and talk about books and eat food,” Stier said.
This club offers a unique experience from West’s other clubs. New members are also encouraged to join throughout the year.
Sage Pottorff ’26 decided to join the club specifically because of her passion for reading and the fact that she can discuss books with her peers. Conversing with others about one of her hobbies is one of her favorite parts of the experience. She is able to discover new friendly faces and talk to others who she normally wouldn’t come across.
“I decided to join because I’ve gotten really into reading recently and I wanted to be able to talk about it with other people,” Pottorff said.
If you’re a book lover like the other members, you’re encouraged to join the Breakfast Book Club. The club meets in Mr Frese’s room (128) at 8:15 a.m. every Thursday.
