Players’ jersey numbers allow others to identify them both in and out of games. Athletes carry their numbers on their back, and for many, the number has become an integral part of who they are. Whether they are scoring a goal, shooting threes or spiking the ball, players’ numbers are what makes each individual special.
Mason Woods ’25: “I’ve had [number 19] since freshman year, and I picked it because I didn’t really have anything else to base it off, besides my birthday.”
Mason Goering ’26: “I picked my number [12] because my brother and dad both wore it. They both went to [West], and I want to carry on the legacy.”
Adam Salem ’26: “My brother and my dad both wore it, and I always wanted to wear the number nine. I think it fits my position [as a striker] best.“
Amaia Martinez ’27: “[In club soccer,] my jersey number is 25 because I was born on June 25 and I really like quarters. It’s five for West because five times five equals 25.”
Lindsey McKane ’25: “I chose 11 because it is my lucky number and I see 11s pop up everywhere in my life.”
Elle Barnett ’25: “When I was little [and] first started recreation basketball, my number was 11 and ever since then I’ve had 11.”
