While walking through West’s halls, one may have to watch their feet for a stray tennis ball. And, following the ball, watch out for Victor, West’s service dog. Victor is adored by the West community, but many don’t know his true personality. Victor provided an exclusive interview with the WSS, shedding light on his life and unveiling his secrets.

WSS: What is your dream weekend?
V: My dream weekend is going to the woods or a trail and just running wild, jumping in rivers and lakes and running free. When my vest is off, I’m a different dog.
WSS: Who is your best friend?
V: I have lots of dog friends. When I was given to Ms. St. John, my first friend was Frankie, who is Ms. Bailey’s dog. I had friends before that. Another black lab, Maizy, is not my biological sister, but is still my little sister. Even though I’m annoyed with her a lot, she’s my best friend.
WSS: What is something people don’t know about you?
V: I do not like to be cuddled or hugged. And sometimes, if you go to pet me, I’ll turn my head away. I don’t like hugs, but I like to give kisses. Another little-known fact is I am allergic to humans. I’m also allergic to cockroaches. And flies. And grass.
WSS: What is your dream job?
V: I’m a workaholic, but when it’s time to have the day off, I’m a playaholic, so maybe… a job that isn’t very social, but has a lot of work. I’d probably be a surgeon or detective. But if I wasn’t a service dog, I would have become a search-and-rescue or sniffing dog, or had some kind of sniffing job.
WSS: Where is your dream vacation spot?
V: Probably the Rocky Mountains. I would go hiking, to music venues and just relax in the sun.
WSS: What is your favorite kind of music?
V: I like hype music. Anything that gets me hyped up to dance.
WSS: What is your favorite food?
V: I’m a very picky eater; if you give me more food than what’s in my bowl, I will only eat the exact measured amount. Usually, I choose cheese and hard-boiled eggs, but I’m obsessed with playing; I will take a ball over food. I have a ball that rolls around, that you put stuffed treats in. I also have this puzzle that people hide treats in, and I have to move the pieces around with my nose to get it.
WSS: What is your favorite Halloween Costume?
V: One year for Halloween, Ms. St. John went as Scooby Doo and I went as Shaggy. For Halloween this year, I think I’m just going to be a classic ghost with a white sheet.
