1440 Interact Club went to Melrose Meadows to have a game night with the residents on Dec. 18. Melrose Meadows is an assisted and independent living home for seniors. 1440 members participated in Scrabble and Skipbo while connecting with the residents.

The Red Cross Club held its first winter blood dri

The Red Cross Club held its first winter blood drive in the dance room on Dec. 13, helping to prevent a winter blood shortage. The national blood supply usually drops during the winter due to weather and travel. The inventory already took a hit this summer for similar reasons, dropping by 25% in July. The Red Cross collected 42 units during West's drive, five more than the 37-unit collection goal.

West’s Jazz Lab, Jazz Collective and Jazz Ensemb

West’s Jazz Lab, Jazz Collective and Jazz Ensemble performed with guest artist Justin Stanton in the cafeteria for the annual Jazz Cafe on Dec. 15. Although the directors initially planned the event for Dec. 14, they rescheduled after the district canceled activities due to an ice storm.

Stanton plays trumpet and keyboards for the five-time GRAMMY Award-winning band Snarky Puppy, among other projects. He held clinics with all three bands throughout the school day on Dec. 13, and during the performance, he played and soloed on both keyboard and trumpet.

For the holiday season, the Breakfast Book Club is holding a book drive this week Dec. 9-13! Boxes will be in the English classrooms, in the commons and the library. Lightly used or new books are preferred for this drive. The proceeds will be donated to the organization Houses into Homes. @breakfast.bookclub

Gliding through the water, Myra Crawford ’26 swims the 200 yard individual medley at Mercer Park, with West placing first overall in the meet, Oct. 21. “I stay focused and motivated during a meet by talking with teammates and coaches about races, times and technique,” Crawford said.
