Winter sport athletes to watch: boys swimming

A leader and a junior on the swim team this year is Winston Fan. Fan played an important role in last year’s success, contributing to the winning 200-meter medley relay at the state swim meet. He also competed in the 100-meter breaststroke finals, securing a 10th-place finish overall. Fan will definitely be a swimmer to watch this year as he chases that title again.
Although this is his first season swimming with the school team, Hayden Hakes ’25 has honed his skills with the Iowa Flyers Swimming Club throughout high school. Specializing in freestyle and already holding top times in several events on the team, the senior is expected to make an immediate impact and be a valuable asset to the team this season.
In just his second year on the swim team, Ethan Landon ’27 has already had some impressive individual performances, earning him a spot as an athlete to watch this winter. Landon holds the second-fastest time on the team in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking in at 54.09 seconds. He also ranks second in the 100-yard butterfly, with a time of 56.16 seconds. Landon is expected to have a strong season.
