“Guns go off when I enter the building” opens M.I.A.’s new single off her upcoming album, “Matangi”, however, this isn’t the 38 year old Sri Lankan EDM artist’s first head-banging, hair swirling club hit.
Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam released the track a few weeks ago on her SoundCloud account. Heavy hitting bass choruses intertwines beautifully with clever verses, which add anticipation to another blissful dance-provoking bridge.
Additionally, in a classic M.I.A. way, the song laces together joyful beats with a strong underlying message. “Y.A.L.A.” stands for “You Always Live Again”. Yes, you guessed right, it is a alteration of Drake’s (and every teen’s) “Y.O.L.O.” She preaches living richly and passionately, while trying new things. Because “if you only live once, why we keep doing the same s***?”
If “Y.A.L.A.” is any indication of her new album, M.I.A. is in for another absurdly successful album, only improving off of her previous three gems.
