West High will host DeGowin blood drive on April 6.

Fenna Semken, Online Editor-in-Chief

On April 6, West High will host a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Auditorium lobby. Anyone 16 and older, and who is over 100 lbs., can donate.

Donating will take about 45 minutes, and all successful donors will receive a pair of black and gold sunglasses. Seniors who donate will be entered into a drawing for a $500 scholarship.

This event is hosted by the DeGowin Blood Center through the University of Iowa Hospital. The DeGowin Center states that every three seconds someone needs blood, and approximately 32,000 pints of blood are used each day in the U.S., one patient alone needing around 50 pints. Just one pint of blood could save the lives of several people.
