After winning the state-qualifying meets, both the girls and boys track and field teams are in position to place among the top at the state championships.

Both the girls and boys track and field teams will travel in Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa to compete in the state championships that will take place May 18-20.

At the state-qualifying meet that took place last Thursday, May 11 at City High School, the Women of Troy put down the competition to win with 190 points. Listed below are the state qualifiers from this meet, along with their seeds going into the state championships.

800 meter run: 4. Bailey Nock ’18 2:19.61 9. Deniz Ince ’19 2:22.61

1500 meter run: 1. Nock 4:49.35 6. Gabby Skopec ’17 4:53.48

3000 meter run: 6. Nock 10:41.12 8. Skopec 10:43.20

100 meter hurdles: 2. Valerie Welch ’17 14.69 15. Peyton Steva ’19 15.89

400 meter hurdles: 10. Welch 1:07.52 19. Micaela Gravelin ’17 1:08.82

4×100 meter shuttle hurdle relay: 3. West High 1:03.96

4×100 meter relay: 24. West High 50.81

4×200 meter relay: 23. West High 1:48.00

4×400 meter relay: 21. West High 4:14.33

4×800 meter relay: 8. West High 9:46.34

Long jump: 2. Welch 18-03.75 5. Kitra Bell ’18 17-10.50

The boys track and field team also won their side of the state qualifying meet, which was also held at City High School on the same day. The Trojans locked up 176 points over Cedar Rapids Kennedy’s 160. Boys state qualifiers, along with their seeds, are listed below.
