West to rematch Bettendorf
West High hosted Cedar Rapids Kennedy for the first round of playoffs on Friday, Oct. 26.
After defeating City High 54-13 last week, the Trojans came into the first round of playoffs on a seven game winning streak. Will Hoeft ’20 started the night off with a touchdown for the Trojans and Landon Green ’19 added another touchdown at the end of the first quarter, making it 14-0 West. Cedar Rapids Kennedy fought back by adding a touchdown to their score. Tate Crane ’20 scored for West making the score 21-7 going into the second half.
Despite facing three turnovers during the first half, the Trojans still battled through.
“We rallied behind our coaches. Our message all week was to focus on the team first and it was really easy to block out distractions,” said center Marshall Blatz ’19.

After losing to Bettendorf 7-10 on Friday, Aug. 31, West will battle against them again at home next Friday during the quarterfinal round.
“It’s a really good opportunity for us to get a rematch in,”said Blatz. “We were pretty disappointed about out performance against Bettendorf last time. We definitely didn’t play to our potential.”
