Girls wrestling team wins first home dual meet

The girls wrestling team won their dual meet against North Scott on Jan. 29 with pins from Mami Selemani ’20 and Laurel Haverkamp ’20.

The Trojans girls wrestling team added another page in their history books Wednesday night. The newly formed girls wrestling team finishes off their season with their first home dual meet, a 48-30 victory against North Scott with a total of six pins.

Ava Davis ’22 started off the meet strong with a pin against North Scott’s Glory Hansel in 3:59. Mattie Harms ’22 also won her match in a 4-0 decision followed by sophomore Marissa Goodale’s second-period pin in her match. 

Both Laurel Haverkamp ’20 and state runner-up Mami Selemani ’20 had a big night with pins in both of their matches. 

Kaitlyn Hansen ’20 fought hard in her lengthy match but fell by a 3-5 decision in overtime. Emma Dunlap ’22 and Katie Hoefer ’21 brought the team back up with their big wins. Dunlap denied her opponent from scoring in her match and won with a 7-0 decision while Hoefer dominated the match with an 11-4 decision.
