Cadenza, West High’s music charity club, brings holiday cheer to Vue Rooftop Dec. 19. West students provided live music as people dined. Ranging from festive tunes to classical compositions, the performance began at 5:30 p.m. and ended around 8:00 p.m.
“I thought the [Vue performance] was amazing,” said Cadenza member Thomas Tong ’26. “We played ‘Sleigh Ride’ and I think we absolutely slayed.”
Cadenza executive member Anjali Lodh ’25 notes the difference between their usual performances and the Vue concert.
“The Vue concert has become somewhat of a tradition for Cadenza,” Lodh said. “For the last couple of years, it has been a favorite among members as it feels more professional and an elevated performance and a change of scenery from the West High auditorium.”
Sabrina Du ’25, a Cadenza executive member, describes the importance of the Vue performance to Cadenza.
“It’s just something really fun and casual that we put on every single year for our members while also doing good for our community and giving back to the Iowa City Music Auxiliary,” Du said.
Like every year, 15% of Vue’s revenue from the night goes to Cadenza, and the proceeds are then donated to the Iowa City Music Auxiliary.
“We are very grateful for the Vue graciously offering to donate to the Music Auxiliary,” Lodh said.
Cadenza plans to continue having more fundraising opportunities and community performances after winter break.
“We have a lot of fun things coming up in the spring. We hope to do some involvement in the community, including performing retirement homes, the children’s hospital and downtown,” Du said.
