After taking down Southeast Polk on Saturday, the girls faced off against Waukee for a trip to state. With some great teamwork and effort, the girls were down 13 points during halftime to a top-seeded team. Ultimately though, West took the fall and lost 58-83.
Although not making it to state, the girls had a great overall season and were even ranked second in the Mississippi Valley-Valley conference. The team also had game leaders; Grace Fincham ’26 scored 332 points, Sasha Baldwin ’27 with a total of 243, and Lucy Wolf ’24 with 159 points.
During the regional semifinals, the girls had a close game against Southeast Polk, ultimately taking home the win by one point. West also won during the season against cross-town rivals City High.
At the beginning of the season West had a good game against Dubuque Senior, and won by 44 points, helping them get fired up for the rest of the season. On Feb. 9 the girls also took home a win 52-41 against high seed Cedar Rapids Washington.
Overall the girls put in some hard work this season, and although the seniors bid farewell, the future looks bright for West High Girls Basketball.
