An Iowa City fall classic is visiting Wilson’s Orchard. People find it a fun activity to pick all the apples they like or that they want to try. The orchard also has a well-known hayride; the tractor that leads the ride is named Bessie. The farmer who drives Bessie has fun and interactive games with the kids. The hayride circles the land showing all the buildings and activities there.
At the orchard, there are many things to do, and the farm also has a pumpkin patch. The patch is near the apple farm; at the patch, you can pick your pumpkin and cut it off the vine. The hayride does not go to the pumpkin patch, so you will have to walk there from the marketplace or the apple farm. The marketplace is also a fun place to visit; if you don’t want to pick your apples or pumpkins, they have an assortment of them in the marketplace. The market has toys, Wilson’s merchandise and many different drinks like apple cider, apple cider slushies and sparkling water; they also sell baked treats like apple turnovers and apple cider donuts.
A great activity for fall is walking. The scenery is beautiful, with trees of bright red, orange and yellow, and the fallen leaves on the ground, hearing a crunch with every step you take. Taking walks when it’s fall is great because you don’t have to worry about the temperature being too hot or cold. On sunny days, the sun will cast a nice warm glow that can help you warm up, and on days where it’s cloudy, it’s nice because all you have to do is grab a jacket and you’ll be alright. There are many pretty trails in Iowa. If you want to see the pretty fall trees, try Hickory Hill Loop.
The trail is 2.6 miles long and is located in North Liberty, Iowa. If you want to see the pretty fall foliage to complement the surrounding scenery, South Sycamore Bottom Marsh and Kiwanis Park are places to check out. South Sycamore Bottom Marsh is located in Iowa City, Iowa. The fallen leaves surround the ponds located in the marsh, complementing the area. Kiwanis Park is located in Iowa City, Iowa. It has two big trails: one that surrounds the park and one that connects to Willow Creek Park. The park has a pretty canopy of leaves covering one of the trails. The trail is right next to the creek, which makes the scenery beautiful. Make sure to visit these parks before all the leaves are gone.
As the leaves fall and the air gets colder, a new jacket or a warmer pair of leggings becomes necessary. Downtown Iowa City comes in handy during this time, hosting a variety of fun clothing stores. Tucked in East College St is the cozy, second-hand store Revival. While it’s mostly a women’s clothing store, Revival also offers jewelry, shoes, bags, perfume and cute trinkets.
Fall spirit is taken to the max at thrift shops, and Iowa City has quite a few. Crowded Closet, Stuff Etc. and The Second Act are only a few of the city’s best, with the ability to make your fall the best it can be. Of course, fall shopping is not just limited to clothes, candles and other seasonal decor; it also picks up momentum in the fall seasons. A trip to T.J. Maxx or Marshalls can elevate the fall experience with inexpensive trinkets and holiday cheer for the home.
Once fall rolls, seasonal and classic desserts become in season. Baking can be a calming activity. Many spend their time making snickerdoodles, cinnamon rolls, apple donuts and apple pie. Lots of fall treats incorporate pumpkin as the main ingredient, such as pumpkin cake, pumpkin bread and, of course, pumpkin pie. A basic recipe for pumpkin pie requires only a few main ingredients, some of which you may already have.
- Deep Dish pie crust
- Pumpkin puree
- Evaporated milk
- 3 eggs
- Cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tsp salt
This classic recipe should be enough for two pies, so take some time to yourself, relax with a cup of chai and get to baking.
