At larger competitions, teams decorate their pits to express team spirit and attract judges and fellow competitors. Inspired by their mentor Alexa’s love for Taylor Swift, Trobotix began the tradition of having a friendship bracelet station in their pit at last year’s tournament. Since then, the station has been a hot spot for teams.

For their second match, Trobotix competes with City High’s robotics team, 8743 Raw Bacon, as the red alliance. Going into the tournament, Trobotix was ranked sixth out of 18 teams, and Raw Bacon was ranked 11th. Both teams fall to the blue alliance, losing 85-140. Trobotix is then demoted to seventh.

The 2024-2025 FIRST Tech Challenge season kicked off in September, giving teams five months to construct a tournament-ready robot. Trobotix began the season with a push-bot, relying on the robot’s drivetrain to score game elements. During this time, the build team worked on modeling the final robot using CAD. At the tournament, the team debuted a new and improved robot with a reliable design.

Prior to alliance selection, Trobotix ranks third in the league, having won five out of six qualification matches. Second-ranked team 12168 Plainsmen Robotics agrees to form an alliance with the team, having shown compatibility in an earlier match. The teams test their robots on the practice field before heading to alliance selection.

During alliance selection, the top four teams assume the role of Alliance Captains, inviting another Alliance Captain or team to join their alliance. A team can accept or decline the request, though declining means they cannot be picked again. If an Alliance Captain declines, they remain a captain but cannot be picked by another team.

Trobotix JV wins four out of six qualification matches and ranks fourth, making them eligible to be an Alliance Captain. The team opts to form an alliance with team 10082 Mechanicats, ranked eighth. The alliance will play their first elimination match against Trobotix and Plainsmen Robotics.

While the first elimination match is in session, Trobotix JV and Trobotix prepare to compete in the second elimination match. Trobotix JV’s drive team consists of drivers Eric Broffitt ’28, Daniel Bender ’27 and human player Lucius Coriglione ’30. The Trobotix drive team consists of drivers Aaron Das ’25, Jennifer Zeng ’26, coach Tada Goto ’26 and human player Calvin Adams ’27.

During the autonomous period, robots move solely using pre-programmed movements. Before the autonomous period starts, Trobotix preloads a game piece. After the start signal, the robot hangs the preload on the bar.

Despite leading at the end of the match, Trobotix loses 120-132. Plainsmen Robotics attempted to hang their robot during endgame but failed to grasp the bar, losing 15 points. Trobotix JV advances to play the fourth match in the upper bracket.  Trobotix is demoted to play the third match in the lower bracket.
