West High’s Good Time Company and ShowTime show choirs performed Feb. 8 at Norwalk at the Norwalk Nexus show, with GTC performing their show under the theme “Homecoming” and ShowTime performing under “Homegrown.”
Many awards were won, with Good Time Company taking home first place in the Open Class Day Round and winning Outstanding Vocals. The show band won Outstanding Band, and the trio of Allison Reed ’25, Avanley Jones ’25 and Tia Rahmatallah ’25 won Outstanding Soloist (Trio).
After winning first in the Open Class Day round, GTC competed again for the chance to become the Grand Champions. When the final awards were announced and GTC was named the Grand Champions, the crowd erupted.
“It was the best feeling ever. I’ve never won in GTC before, and my heart was racing,” said Greta Gromacki ’26, a member of GTC.
GTC member Maya Hanna ’25 was happy to see the hard work the show choir puts in come to fruition.
“[I felt] really content. I was proud of it but was so much more proud of the work than the trophy. It was a great competition, and I think we all got off stage feeling incredible about the work we put in and our performance,” Hanna said.
Her favorite part of the day was towards the end of the competition before the awards started. All the show choirs competing were in the gym, and popular songs were playing. All the teams got off the bleachers and hung out together.
“It felt like the weird competition aspect of show choir, where we all kind of hate each other went away,” Hanna said.
GTC will perform again on Feb. 15 at Cedar Rapids Washington’s MoShow.
