Cedar Rapids Washington
With the final week of regular season competition, the boys team hosted their final home meet against Cedar Rapids Washington May 6. CR Washington came to the meet with a 10-4 record, with recent wins against Dubuque Senior, Western Dubuque and Dubuque Hempstead.
In singles, Anthony Medina ’25 fell to Washington’s Luke Burkamper in two sets, 0-6 and 4-6. Afterwards, Pierce Hribar ’28 quickly took down Washington’s Brock Davis 6-0 and 6-2. Derek Hua ’25 and Prabhas Gupta ’28 both took down their opponents in two sets, with Hua winning 6-4 and 6-4, and Gupta winning 6-4 and 6-2. Jensen Lin ’27 fell to Washington’s Preston Haefner 2-6 and 2-6. Ishan Harwani ’25 finished off singles competition with a win against Isaac Sparboe 6-4 and 6-2.
In doubles, West swept in all three matches, with Medina/Gupta winning in two sets, 7-5 and 6-4. Hribar/Hua won 6-3 and 6-2, and Harwani/Lin won two out of three sets with scores 1-6, 6-4 and 1-0 (10-2).

Linn-Mar
On May 8, the boys team traveled north to Marion to face eighth-ranked Linn-Mar. Last year, West fell 4-5 in a home match to Linn-Mar, and looked to finish off the regular season with a win.
In singles, West won five out of the six matches. Medina fell to Linn-Mar’s Garrett Bauermeister 0-6, 4-6. Hribar faced a tough match against Linn-Mar’s Quentin Spolaore where he won two of three matches, with scores 6-3, 4-6 and 11-9, respectively. Hua quickly swept his match in two sets with scores 6-0, 6-0. The last singles matches for West went well, with a 6-0, 6-1 win by Gupta and a 6-3, 6-1 win by Lin. Harwani came back against Linn-Mar’s Jonas Jaritz to win two of three sets with scores 4-6, 6-3 and 10-5, respectively.
In doubles, West faced harsh competition, and won one of three matches. Medina/Gupta won 6-7 (4-7), 6-1 and 10-6, while Hribar/Hua fell 7-5, 6-0, and Lin/Harwani fell in a close match where they won one of three sets with scores 4-6, 6-3 and 10-6.

West will return to the courts May 14 to compete in the individual district tournament at Ottumwa High School. Each region comprises six schools who each submit two singles entries and two doubles entries into the tournament. The tournament itself is single elimination, with the top two in both singles and doubles qualifying for the boys individual state tournament, which will take place at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex May 27-28. Last year, the boys tennis team sent two entries — Medina in singles, and Patrick Selby ’24/Samir Singh ’24 in doubles. This year, West submitted Hribar and Aaron Kang ’27 for singles and Hua/Medina and Harwani/Junze Sun ’25 in doubles. The boys will compete against opponents from Burlington, Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Muscatine and Ottumwa.
