The West High girls varsity cross country team placed third overall at the Cedar Rapids Invitational Sept. 8th at Noelridge Park. The Women of Troy produced 91 points after team champions Iowa City City High (49 points) and Marion Linn-Mar (61 points).
According to head coach Mike Parker, the team was fairly pleased with the results.
“We came into the competition ranked fifth, so we did better than our ranking. We ran better than last week . . . we had half of our varsity do better than I thought (they would perform),” Parker said.
However, Parker believes there is room for improvement.
“[The team] can improve . . . we have to close the gaps between the top three runners and the rest of the pack.”
Standouts include Ashlynn Yokom ’14 who placed fifth overall and sixth-place finisher Molly Leveille ’13.
Next week the Women of Troy will battle for gold against top-ranked Dowling Catholic at the Des Moines Roosevelt Invitational at Iowa State University on Sept. 17th.
