Two trojans earn first-team honors in divisional cross country meet

The Trojans kicked off their championship season with the chance to improve before the state qualifying meet.

The Trojan cross country teams traveled to Seminole Valley Park in Cedar Rapids to take on their divisional opponents Oct. 12.

The No.15 ranked girls team kicked off the day, battling through the wind and slight drizzle to place fourth. Kate Van Waning ’26 led the pack, earning a sixth-place finish and a first-team all-conference honor with a time of 18:53. Freshman Susanna Olsen ’27 came in a minute later to place 18th, giving her an all-conference honorable mention.

Kalli Titus ’25 came in next, followed by Cindy Wang ’24 less than a second later. The duo placed 25th and 26th respectively. Senior Erinn Varga rounded out the top five, finishing four seconds behind the two Trojans.

With slightly more wind, the No. 19 ranked boys team started shortly after the girls, finishing fourth as well. Moustafa Tiea ’25 also earned first-team all-conference honors with a seventh-place finish, clocking in at 15:57. Cade Benson ’24 came in next at 16:36 at No. 17, with a 16:29.

Michael Lee ’24 came in a few seconds behind Benson. Sam Showers ’25 and Maxwell Bruss ’25 came in within four seconds of each other for a 30th and 31st place finish, respectively.

The Trojans will be back at Ashton Cross Country Course for the state qualifiers Oct. 18.
