Through the lens: West bands’ spring concert

West High’s band program closed the year at their spring concert May 21. Split into two performances with two ensembles each, the night featured senior recognition and awards for certain musicians.

Before performing their final piece, seniors of Symphonic Band stand one by one as their names are read to the audience. Alongside seniors, a few players from each group were recognized for their musicianship May 21.

Percussionist Anna Greenlee ’26 prepares for her part on the gong. Greenlee, along with other seniors, was recognized May 21 at the final concert of the year.

Senior Alexa Small receives an award from Ryan Middleton, one of West’s band directors. At the spring concert May 21, Small performed with both Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble.

Band Directors Brian Zeglis and Ryan Middleton hug as Zeglis presents Middleton with a copy of “Peterloo Overture,” a piece performed by Wind Ensemble, signed by every member of the band. The group played seven pieces including the overture at the Iowa Bandmasters Association May 15 after being named the best 4A band in the state, taking four of them to the spring concert May 21.

Ryan Middleton and Brian Zeglis receive gifts from graduating seniors in band, including flowers, gift bags and signed poster boards. The two conducted four bands May 21, ending a successful year.
