Washington (7-2)
During the final week of regular season competition, the girls tennis team hosted Cedar Rapids Washington at their home courts Sept. 9 with the Warriors coming off recent wins over Prairie and Dubuque Hempstead.
In singles, Zariah Jahainger ’29 made quick work defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-1. Shortly after, Audrey Crawford ’26 and Grace Wang ’27 completed their matches, winning in straight sets. Sophie Singh ’27 won her match 6-4, 6-3 at 2 Singles, followed by Elsie Gross ’27, who clinched the meet for West with a 6-0, 6-3 win. In a rigorous tiebreak, Iris Vasi ’28 fell to her opponent 3-6, 6-4, 0-1 (7-10).
In doubles, Jahangir and Crawford defeated their opponents in an eight-game pro-set, followed by Singh and Wang, who fell short of the win at 1 Doubles. Shortly after, Gross and Vasi defeated their opponents 8-4, resulting in a 7-2 win for West.
After doubles, the girls team held senior night on their home tennis courts. The team recognized captain Crawford — celebrating her with a colorful bouquet and treats.

The girls tennis team traveled to Marion Sept. 12 where they faced Linn-Mar for their final meet of the regular season. West competed for around four hours, ultimately securing an 8-1 win.
In singles, Iris Vasi ’28 won by default after her opponent withdrew due to an injury in the second set. Shortly after, Zariah Jahangir ’29 won her match 6-1, 6-4, followed by teammate Audrey Crawford ’26 who won 6-4, 6-3. In straight sets, Grace Wang ’27 took down her opponent 6-1, 6-2 and at 6 Singles, Gracie Liu ’27 battled a tough match, ultimately falling short of the win 2-6, 2-6. Last off the court, Elsie Gross ’27 endured a series of long points, where she clinched the meet for West 6-2, 6-4.
Heading into doubles, the girls tennis team was determined to quickly close out the meet. Wang and Singh defeated their opponents 6-3, 6-0 at 1 singles, followed by Jahaingir and Crawford who won 6-3, 6-2. Concluding the meet, Gross and Vasi fought hard at 2 Singles, where they won in a tiebreak 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-5).

West will return to their home courts Sept. 17 for the individual regional tournament. Each region submits two singles and two doubles entries per school — where players compete in single-style elimination — with the top two singles and doubles teams qualifying for the individual state tournament at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex Oct. 1-2. Last year, the girls tennis team submitted Gross and Singh for singles, along with Marie Stier ’25/Sasha Postnikov ’25 and Vasi/Wang in doubles. This year, the girls tennis team submitted Gross and Vasi for singles, along with Singh/Wang and Crawford/Jahangir for doubles.
