Zikra Haque ’29, Youan Lee ’29, and Kate Rabe ’29 explore the varying opinions of students and teachers at West High regarding the current cell phone policy implemented throughout the Iowa City Community School District. Screen Time’s Over highlights both the positive impacts and the negative consequences that come with this policy, seen through the eyes of our own students and teachers.
The podcast features an interview with Colin Wehrle ’27, an executive member of the ICCSD Emerging Technologies Leadership Committee, who gave insight into why the policy was made. Then, two students, CC Chislom ’28 and Davi Donato ’29, shared their differing viewpoints on the effects of the policy. Finally, the podcast wraps up with Michael Mettenburg, an AP Human Geography teacher, sharing his personal experiences in classes before and after the policy was put into place.
“Screen Time’s Over” hopes to interest all students, teachers and other listeners, as the issue of phones in schools becomes increasingly pressing.
