These fashion predictions were based off of the 2017 fall and winter fashion weeks. Whether shopping for one item or a whole new closet, keep these looks in mind to keep your style fresh and on trend.
Bright colors
Online feature editor Sophie Stephens ’19 sports a salmon cardigan along with a white shirt and jeans, just one example of how bright colors can be incorporated to spice up a simple outfit.
Say goodbye to rose gold and baby blue. New York Fashion Week 2017 declared that this season is all about bright colors like hot pink and neon yellow, such as these colors named Pantone’s fashion colors of the year.
Tied shirts
Tying up a shirt is an easy way to make an outfit more stylish without needing to purchase anything new.
Details are everything this season, like shirts that are knotted, tied or twisted at the bottom.
Sleeves
Stephens pairs a pink top with puffed sleeves with jeans to create an outfit to match newly popular styles found in this year’s clothing.
Statement pieces have transitioned from big necklaces to big sleeves. From bell to puff to stacked, a unique sleeve is going to be all the rage this season.
Mixed prints
Mixing different prints, like floral and stripes, has been a popular trend in the latest 2018 fashion movements.
Flowers on stripes, polka dots with filigree patterns and mixed animal prints are making waves this season from high fashion runways to commercial shops alike.
Outerwear
Adding a bomber jacket to an outfit not only helps accessorize simple clothing, but also serves to provide warmth during colder winter months.
Bomber jackets, anoraks, military jackets and windbreakers will be all over the biggest companies to keep you warm and chic.
Scrunchies
Scrunchies are making a comeback in 2018, whether it be a simple accessory or a hair fashion statement.
80’s fashion may be laughed at now, but it’s coming back, just like the effortless scrunchie trend.
Flared pants
Flared pants are a blast from the past that are making a comeback this fashion season.
Wide leg jeans, mom jeans and palazzo pants will be all the rage with celebrities and designers this spring and summer.
Look out for these trends as New York Fashion Week, London Fashion Week and Milan Fashion Week come in early February.
