Fashion Friday: Ben Jaeger ’18
Ben Jaeger ’18 shares how he uses a combination of popular clothing trends and unique accessories to express himself through fashion.
Nowadays, similar clothing styles can be found in various popular clothing stores all over the country. Considered ‘basic,’ these popular trends seem to leave little room for originality or uniqueness. However, Ben Jaeger ’18 shows that it is possible to wear these popular fashion trends or name clothing brands while still making them unique to his own particular style.
West Side Story (WSS): How would you describe your style?
Jaeger: I would say my style is mostly modern or ‘basic’ stuff with a kind of ’90s twist.
WSS: How do you incorporate the ’90s into your fashion?
Jaeger: I really like ’90s-esque jackets and shoes and bright colors. I also think it’s really cool to go to places like Goodwill or Ragstock and find recycled things from the ’90s era.
WSS: What would you say your favorite type of clothing is?
Jaeger: Definitely shoes. I’m not quite sure why, but I’ve always just really loved shoes. I have [around] 27 pairs and I tend to pick my shoes out first and then plan my outfit around them. I think they’re really cool to use as a statement sometimes and can show your personality and tie your outfit together in a subtle way.
WSS: Where do you generally get your clothing?
Jaeger: I don’t really have a specific place I show most. A lot of the time I just go to the mall and get things from all over. My favorites are probably Target, American Eagle and Old Navy.
WSS: What would you say makes your style unique?
Jaeger: My shoes . . . make my style unique because I’m able to mix and match them and create a full outfit based on them. I also have so many that I could wear a different pair every day of the week which I think is really cool.
WSS: What would you recommend to other people trying to go for a more unique look?
Jaeger: I think it’s good to find pieces that are super unique to you – a jacket, a pair of shoes, a cool shirt – and integrate those into your wardrobe. A lot of my clothes are just normal big brand things, but I think it’s the cool extra things that are more special to me that make my style unique.
